would you...cook for me?

what will we have for dinner?, is mainly the most important question for mini-santiago when he comes from school..long before he takes off his shoes, tells me how it was in school or whatever ..long before that he wants to know what i ll cook...usually i know the answer right away..i m passionet cook..love cooking..dont mind spending hours in the kitchen...i have aroutine for certain dishes...and also love to flip through cook books to get inspired...but sometimes its just like..my inner kitchen is cold and my pot is empty...what will i cook??..or even worse: sometimes i dont want to cook the things i like to cook usually...i feel like i wanna sneak into someone elses kitchen and go there through the box with old and loved reciepes...so..my question is...would you..cook for me? would you post about your fav dish? show me how to cook a dish that you really like..that you cook for the ones you love?...would you invite me, teach me and make me cook your reciepe afterwards in my kitchen? please...let me look into your pot..:-)

I would teach you to make bread. Bread making is divine - like working with a delicate living being.

But I haven't made bread in years so my from-memory recipe for Tuscan bread is long gone. I learned it when I worked at a posh catering restaurant during my summers off from high school and college. I make a mean spinach-feta phillo (hor d'oeuvres or casserole), too.

My husband will teach you to make fettuccine from scratch. It's an engineering art to roll it out right.

I wish I had more time to cook exotic things for my kids. So far I've only taught them to make French toast, sugar cookies and chocolate pudding. When they get older they should have more stamina for making real food!

I'll have to think about this...

wish i could help you... but I'm afraid I am not the most patient cook these days. I usually do the "what do I have in the house" recipes and "what seems like it would taste good together" recipes. Or I will piece a meal together out of left overs.

I'm on a kick now where I add nuts to everything. Not really a recipe, but... Anyway good luck! I suspect you'll get really yummy answers from the Moon women. They are exceptional cooks! Can't wait to read their responses myself!
Cheers,
pf

Mmmmm. What would I cook for you, Danielle? I think I would have to include Our Beautiful Allegra's mushrooms. I know you've read about them, but here they are again:
http://beadingstars.blogspot.com/2010/01/days-of-chemo-and-mushrooms.html
I just bought a whole bunch of mushrooms today and some organic olive oil because the first batch I made, as Allegra promised, did not last a moment.
But back to what I would make you.
I would like to make you something Southern. As in Southern like the United States Southern. I would like to fix you something either from the sea or the woods which my husband had brought home. Grouper, cooked with pecans, baked until crispy and steaming, perfect inside. Or a stew made from venison, savory and rich with potatoes and carrots, onions and garlic. And from the garden, of course- greens, collards and mustards, cooked until they fall apart at the touch of the fork. A loaf of bread made with whole wheat and oats and flax and perhaps the mushrooms and their oil would go on that. And tomatoes from the garden, of course, merely sliced. That is all they need.
Or a soup and a bread- my favorite. Sausage and sweet potato soup with cumin and tomatoes. Don't judge until you've tasted it.
And a dessert- ah, the best is one with berries, don't you think? I could whip the whites of my hen's eggs and make you a Pavlova with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries that I picked myself in the hot summer sun. With good whipped cream.
Maybe. Or strawberry short cake.
I don't know.
What are you in the mood for and what is in the garden? What is in the freezer and what is the temperature, inside and out? What season is it?
Come this weekend for dinner and I might very well serve you chicken and dumplings, made with Sam, my very own rooster.

I need to rediscover the joy of cooking just now. So sorry, not just now. The most inspiring things I've made lately have all been Jamie Oliver knock-offs, so you could try his (wonderful) books.
