60 strockes with the whip..and i dont mean the sexy ones

the face behind the story: rosana al-jami

the masked men grabbed her at her hands and ankles. You bitch will suffer one hissed through the black fabric of his mask. they dragged her out of the room. she tried to free herself..to escape..screamed and kicked but the men where stronger. outside the light and the heat of the day bit into her. a crowd were already waiting and lurked while the men pushed her down into the dust of the market place..
my dear fellow smut writers...
we all do it...we write about sex..about sex we had..about sex we would like to have and about the sex we just imagine...we do it no matter what..for the most of us it doesent matter if our work is published..read..if anybody knows what we do or not...
and we know that it is "forbidden" by our societys standarts,..because sex is something that happends behind closed doors and shouldnt be dragged into the light..still we write about what ever tickles our brain..but would you still do it if it was really forbidden by law? the few lines in the beginning of this post could be the beginning of a sm-story or could be a snipped from a horror-anthology..but its not..somewhere this will be rerality ...
Rosanna al-Jami ..a 22 year old journalist from saudi-arabi didnt even wrote about sex but helped to prepare a talkshow for the LBC chanel...a tv show in which a man spoke open about himself having sex with a female neighbour and also presendet some sex toys in front of the camera...
this tv show actually was a shock to the system..maybe not for our standarts but for the standarts of the islamic society...
so Rosanna al-Jami has been accused for preparing this show and also for promoting the show in the internet..her punishment will be 60!!! strokes with the whip...
the man who spoke open about his sexlife has lost his job at a government-runned airline..and has been judget/punished with 5 years in jail!!! and 1000!!! strokes with the whip...
i m just surprised that they didnt try to finde the neighbour he had sex with to punish her too..maybe by condmn her to hard labour...or shaving her head and splitting her nose and pinning her on a scarlett letter...
i thought for a while about writing about this subject...even though a many of my friends tried to keep me from putting this on my blog but i cant look away...all of you my fellow writers could be in the shoes and situation of Rosanna al-Jami .....what do you think..what would you do?

I am pondering this and will ponder some more.
It seems to me that people all over the world want to impose their views and beliefs on others and this imposition never turns out to be a good thing.
Oh Danielle. I think it is good you wrote about this here.

@ ms moon, the wonderful

its so..disgusting..no matter if it is this case of non-human behaviour, if its the gay-marriage fight which goes on in the states, dying rooms for girls in china or people who try to take away womens right of having a choice...

we just cant look away...

I often think of what I'd do if we had a fundamentalist Islam society suddenly imposed on us. Raise my daughter in it? Escape? Kill us all?

Horrific. But I don't know what the answer is. I'm very grateful I was born where I was. When I was.But I don't know how to change the things you're talking about.

@ jo

i m afraid that no one knows how to chnage those things...all we can do is to chnage what we can change in our nearest environment and raise our children to be the best future beeings and leaders to create a better society based on what we teach our own families...

thank you so much for comenting..it means a lot to me ...

I recall one of my spiritual teachers saying once, "The best thing we can do to bring joy and beauty to the world is to be joy and beauty." I cry as I type this in response to what you posted, and I feel indescribable gratitude.... The understanding in me is that each of us individually Awakening serves the world / Universe. I remember another friend saying, "When you heal yourself, you heal the world."

We are indeed fortunate to live in societies which, by comparison, are very relaxed in their standards. We sometimes complain about how puritanical the United States is; this is a dose of reality.

There have always been those who were willing to suffer to "go against the grain."

Through these horrible events, injustices are illuminated, and we can only hope that people who have suffered, like Rosanna and the man in the show, and those who bring it to light, such as you, will help to bring about change.

@ em

i m glad you have such wise spiritual teachers in your life!

to heal ourselfes is a way! but can you imagine how "sick" and "sad" such a society is which punishes it people so hard and in so painful and also ashaming ways?

i dont have any problems with islamic society but i sure have problems with any society who hurts and tortures its people...

thank you for your precious coment em...

@ craig

"this is a dose of reality"

thats so true..this is really happening somewhere..its surely not the first time as well as not the last time..thats why its important that we dont close our eyes when we are faced with such injustice..

thank you for comenting and showing us your point of view...

This sort of thing makes me so angry I can barely see. Religious fundamentalism is a fucking curse on humanity.

The one good thing is that every time someone put up a dirty picture or an erotic story or writes a blog post like this online, we're doing a tiny bit to undermine that sort of attitude. Well done Danielle.

And if we did live in that sort of society, I hope we'd have the guts to keep resisting.

@ janine

you are so right with every word you wrote!

thank you for comenting bravely!

guts is what we need indeed!

Horrific. That's the word that comes to mind when I read about that incident. Once the shock wears off, it makes me angry.

In situations like this, I can't help but wonder if the judges get some kind of sick pleasure out of the punishments enforced, because they are clearly sexually repressed.

Danielle said...

@ cora

that is exactly the way i fealed like when i researched the case of
of rosana al-jami

...and yeah. i wonder too what goes on in the heads of these judges...

I think the levels of hypocricy in those countries are probably completely staggering.

What they try to effect is just too unnatural for humans to live with. It doesn't work.

Plus, I've always thought, when one half of a population is held is such utter fear, hatred and debasement, it pretty much amounts to mysanthropy. How can you love yourself if you have to feel so violently towards your mother, sister, wife, daughter.

Though at the same time, I"m not so sure there's any way to process it through a filter of christian democratic standards.

Germaine Greer ended her last book about feminism (that I've read, anyway)saying the women of the third world would soon rise up, the poor, downtrodden women still living lives of servitude.

I don't know that that's true, but it's an optimistic vision.
